Lets' talk about Visceral Fat....

Hey y'all... i've been talking about losing weight, gaining weight, maintaining weight, calories intakes and healthy lifestyle..

Now let me talk more in details about fat...what do we know about fat?

Fat is actually a nutrient that provides the body with 9 calories per gram. Aside from providing energy, it also has some other key functions which include aiding in the absorption of fat soluble vitamins and producing hormones. One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding this nutrient is that eating fat will make you fat. Fat does not make you fat, excess calories is responsible for that.

Visceral fat is different from other body fat. Visceral fat, also called intra-abdominal fat, refers to the fat that surrounds the internal organs.Subcutaneous fat, on the other hand, is body fat that is close to the skin’s surface and is considered less dangerous, and easier to lose, than visceral fat.

Visceral fat is harder to lose than subcutaneous fat because it is more deeply embedded in the body’s tissues. Visceral fat is only measured accurately by an imaging machine that can see how much of the abdomen is made up of visceral fat. A person may be within a healthy weight range, but still have too much intra-abdominal fat around the internal organs.

An excess of visceral fat is known as central obesity, or "belly fat", in which the abdomen protrudes excessively.  There is a strong correlation between central obesity and cardiovascular disease.  Excess visceral fat is also linked to type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, inflammatory disease and other obesity-related diseases.

Female sex hormone causes fat to be stores in the buttocks, thighs and hips in women.  Men are more likely to have stores in the belly to the sex hormone difference.  When women reaches menopause and the estrogen produced by ovaries declines, fat migrates from their buttocks, hips and thighs to their waists, later fat is stored in the belly.

The liver metabolizes visceral fat and releases it into the bloodstream as cholesterol. Harmful, or “bad” cholesterol, which is Low-Density-Lipoprotein (LDL), builds up into a plaque that blocks the arteries. Losing weight through proper diet and effective exercise can help reduce visceral fat. How much fat a person eats does matter as studies have shown that those who eat 30% or more of their diets as fat usually have high amounts of visceral fat.

This is how and what it looks like..... in simple words...visceral fat is BONCHIT!!! :)

Keeping the weight off during Puasa...

How to lose weight and keep it off?

Losing weight is a matter of supply and demand. People gain weight when they consume more food energy (calories) than their bodies can burn up in their daily activities. You lose weight when you expend more energy than you consume. Stored body fat is converted back into energy to make up the difference.

Here's some tips to keep it off.....

  • Find out how many calories your body needs.
  • Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
  • Watch for portion size.
  • Do not skip meals.
  • Go for wholesome fresh food.
  • Don't be over-restrictive.
  • Understand food claims and labels.
  • Watch the sugary drinks.
  • Keep a food journal.
  • Exercise!!

"How many calories your body needs per day?"

Calories are everything..LET me REPEAT that...CALORIES ARE EVERYTHING!!  Forget carbs, forget fat, forget protein, forget every single thing you ever heard about diet and nutrition.  Weight control is all about calories.. NOTHING ELSE COMES CLOSE!!
Everything you eat and drink contains calories.. From junk food like cookies, candy, potato chips and soda drinks, to more healthy food like whole wheat bread, grilled chicken, broccoli and orange juice....they ALL contain calories.  Because there are the calories you are taking in, they are nicknamed 'calories in'.

Everything you do burns calories. Calories are energy, so they are used for everything your body has to do. From intense exercise like running and weight training, to everyday tasks like standing and tying your shoes... they all burn calories. And that's only the half of it. Your body actually uses a ton of calories every single day even when you aren't doing anything. Just keeping your body alive and functioning properly burns lots of calories. Because these are the calories your body is burning and using up, they are nicknamed 'calories out'.
Weight control is all about the battle between calories in and calories out. If they are both equal to each other, your weight will stay exactly the same. But, if one is higher than the other, your weight will change. Not only that, but it will continue to change in that same direction until they either equal each other, or they switch places and therefore cause your weight to change in the opposite direction.

This should help to give you a very clear picture of why calories counting is the key to weight control.

This person will gain weight.
If a person  takes in 3000calories per day, and uses 2500 calories per day by doing  some simple math (3000 - 2500 = 500), there are 500 left over calories that are taken in but NOT used by the body.  These excess calories are what causes weight gain.

This person will lose weight.

A person will lose weight if they consume 2000 calories per day, and burn 2500. They are burning 500 more calories than they are consuming. This calorie deficit is what causes weight loss.
This person will maintain weight.
Last but not least, a person will maintain weight if they are consuming 2500 calories per day, and burning 2500. This means every calorie they consume is being burned. This is what causes a person's weight to stay exactly the same.
Your calorie requirements vary according to height, total body weight, ratio of fat to muscle, age, gender, genes, health and physical exercise. In general, your calorie needs can be reasonably accurately assessed base on two calorie components : Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and Physical Exercise.
  1. Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the minimum number of calories needed to power your body while resting. i.e. energy needed by your body to maintain normal functions, like heart beat, respiration and normal body temperature. It accounts for about 60-70% of your calories requirements.
  2. The second major calorie component is physical exercise or activity. The more exercise you take, the more calories you burn.
You can do the math yourself, calculate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the number of calories you need if you do absolutely noting but wake up in the morning.  Then use your BMR to calculate your Active Metabolic Rate (AMR), which adds in the calories you need for your daily physical activities:

English BMR Formula
  • Women : BMR = 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years)
  • Men : BMR = 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) + ( 12.7 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years)
Metric BMR Formula
  • Women : BMR = 655 + (9.6 x weight in KG) + (1.8 x height in cm) - (4.7 x age in years)
  • Men : BMR = 66 + (13.7 x weight in KG) + ( 5 x height in cm) - (6.8 x age in years)

You can calculate your AMR by using your BMR and estimating your current level of activity.  If you are:

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise ) - your AMR = BMR x 1.2
  • Lightly active (light exercise/work 1-3 days per week) - your AMR = BMR x 1.375
  • Moderately active (moderate exercise/work 3-5 days per week) - your AMR =BMR x 1.55
  • Very Active (hard exercise/work 6-7 days a week) - your AMR = BMR x 1.725
  • extra Active (very hard exercise/work 6-7days a week) - your AMR = BMR x 1.9

Your AMR represents the number of calories you need to stay at your current weight.  If you want to lose weight, you need to increase your level of physical activity level or decrease you r caloric intake by eating less.
If you reduce your current intake by 500 calories everyday, you will lose about a pound each week. BUT PLEASE DON'T GO BELOW than 1500 calories each day and DON'T waste time on CRASH DIETS!!

    Why do we gain weight?

Your weight is a fine balance between the energy you burn off (the amount of physical activity you do) and the energy you consume (the food you eat).
If your daily energy intake from food is the same as the calories your body needs each day, your weight will stay the same. In other words, your body will be in energy balance.

If your daily energy intake from food is more than the calories your body needs, your weight will increase. This is because your body will store the extra energy as fat. This is your body's way of protecting you against famine. If food did become scarce, the fat you have stored would provide your body with energy for quite some time.
In today's society, it is very rate to have a shortage of food, so if we consume more energy than we need, we put on weight.

What is the relationship between weight and health?
As the amount of excess weight increases, so does the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, gallstones, certain respiratory disorders, some types of cancer, and premature death. Fortunately, losing weight and keeping it off may produce health benefits for many people with excess weight, especially those who are at risk of other diseases.

Why do you need to keep a healthy heart?

    Salam y'all...

i recently came across this..and surely would like to share with others...

Heart disease is the #1 cause of death worldwide, greater than the next five causes of death combined! As leading cause of death for both men
and women around the world, cardiovascular disease affects people of all ages and races.

    1. Risk Factor - Cholesterol

Clogged ArteriesCholesterol is a fat-like substance either synthesized by the body or derived from our diet. There are two types of cholesterol that travel through your blood:
    • LDL = bad cholesterol (GARBAGE)
    • HDL= good cholesterol (TRUCKS)
Too much LDL (bad cholesterol) may increase the risk of clog arteries and veins so that your organs don't get enough oxygen and nutrients they need, while HDL (good cholesterol) helps transport cholesterol out of the bloodstream to the liver, where your body can either remove or re-utilize it. (If garbage are too much, the trucks cannot carry enough, so the garbage will clog the arteries and veins)
The higher a persons total cholesterol, the greater the risk for heart disease.

    2. Risk Factor - High Blood Pressure

Blood pressure tells how hard your heart is pumping to circulate blood around your body. High blood pressure means that your heart is working too hard, which may ultimately lead to heart failure if your heart does not get enough blood or strokes if your brain does not receive enough blood.

    3. Risk Factor - Triglyceride

Triglycerides are a form of fat necessary for human life & Homocysteine is amino acids (building block of protein). High blood triglycerides are usually link with having lower HDL (good) cholesterol, contributing to higher risk of heart attack and stroke. Excess amounts of homocysteine may be associate with an increase risk of stroke in people who already have coronary heart disease.
High blood Triglycerides have been linked to higher risk of heart attack and stroke.

    Happy Ramadhan with Herbalife!!!

    Ramadhan is here again...Alhamdulillah..
Am really looking forward to start Ramadhan with a simple and healthy diet with HERBALIFE..  Grab the opportunity to lose more KG during this month!!  Insyaallah...

Ramai yang dah tanya...puasa dah nak start..macamana nak continue consuming Herbalife?
"Kenyang ke dengan hanya ambil Shake for sahur?"
My simple answer is... YES...cukup kenyang..kalau tak percaya..kene try sendiri..baru tau!! but as far for the last past 2 Ramadhans me with herbalife..i've never felt better!! secara logiknya to me it actually makes sense because when u over feed yourselves or have heavy food consumption during sahur, your tummy tend to work harder during the day in order to digest what you have eaten earlier..so kite senang/cepat terasa lapar.. BUT if you consume a lighter food intake.. your tummy works lesser and..tadaaaa...kurang la rasa laparnya... BETOL tak??

ok lah..enuf for today's celoteh.. i hope this short entry will help answer the MAIN and BIG Q for PUASA with HERBALIFE.. i have prepared a simple SCHEDULE on how to consume your SHAKES during the whole fasting month.. email me, contact me if u need guidance .. :)

Till then, selamat berpuasa and jom jom jom..start your day with HERBALIFE SHAKES!!!
